Why We Use MCT as a Carrier Oil

In functional formulations, ingredients do not exist in isolation.

How an ingredient is delivered — its carrier — plays a significant role in stability, consistency, and usability. For this reason, Hydrae products are formulated using MCT oil as a carrier for selected functional ingredients.

This choice is intentional and grounded in formulation science rather than trend.

What Is MCT Oil?

MCT (medium-chain triglyceride) oil is a refined oil typically derived from coconut or palm sources. It consists of medium-length fatty acids that are colourless, odourless, and stable.

Because of these characteristics, MCT oil is widely used in food, nutraceutical, and pharmaceutical applications as a neutral, functional carrier.

Ingredients are chosen to serve the formulation — not the other way around.

Why Oil-Based Delivery?

Many functional compounds found in mushrooms and botanicals are fat-soluble.

Oil-based formulations allow these compounds to remain stable within the formulation, be delivered consistently in measured amounts and integrate naturally into oil-based routines such as sublingual use or mixing with food.

Hydrae’s use of oil-based delivery reflects a focus on formulation integrity, not convenience alone.

Why MCT Specifically?

Hydrae uses MCT oil as a carrier because it offers several formulation advantages:

1. Neutral profile - MCT oil has minimal taste and aroma, allowing functional ingredients to remain the focus.
2. High stability - It resists oxidation and maintains consistency over time.
3. Compatibility with functional compounds - MCT oil supports the suspension and delivery of fat-soluble botanical extracts.
4. Consistency in dosing - Its uniform structure allows for accurate, repeatable measurements.

These characteristics make MCT oil particularly well suited to daily-use formulations.

Absorption and delivery considerations

Hydrae formulations are designed with delivery context in mind.

Oil-based carriers are commonly used in formulations where ingredients are traditionally taken: under the tongue,
with food, or as part of routine dietary intake.

Rather than relying on a single pathway, oil-based delivery supports flexibility in how products are used — without requiring aggressive processing or modification.

Hydrae avoids making claims about superiority and instead focuses on reliability, consistency, and compatibility.

MCT oil within Hydrae’s formulation philosophy

The choice of carrier oil reflects the same principles that guide all Hydrae formulations; minimal interference, clarity of purpose, consistency over intensity, suitability for daily use.

MCT oil is selected not to amplify effects, but to support the integrity and usability of the formulation as a whole.

Transparency and responsibility

Hydrae products are designed to complement daily routines.

Carrier oils support formulation stability and delivery but do not imply medical outcomes. We encourage informed exploration and responsible use as part of a balanced lifestyle.
